FAQ
Frequently asked questions about Hippowash
How does a Hippowash® get delivered?
Hippowash is delivered on a crane off-load vehicle, which means you do not have to buy in a contract lift on-site.
How does it get installed? How long will it take?
Hippowash® has a team of installation experts who will install the unit for you, generally within a day. All you have to do is provide any relevant excavation, as directed by Hippowash® and an electrician to connect our control panel to your electricity supply. See the specification sheet for further details.
Are any civils required?
Only a small excavation for the sump 750 x 750 x 750 deep is required for units installed above ground. Hippowash® can provide full details and drawings for the civils required for insetting your system or for building a suitable lagoon.
Do the drivers operate the Hippowash®?
No. The wash system is fully automatic as it operates using vehicle detection sensors, so there is no need for any operational supervision. The vehicle is simply driven through the wash which lasts up to 30 seconds.
What can go wrong?
Hippowash® provides a 5 year warranty on steel work and 12 months manufacturer’s warranty on pumps and controls. The system requires only the basic minimum amount of maintenance including regular de-sludging and emptying filters. We have made every effort to prevent any malfunction, including employing the inverter which helps protect the pumps and prolong their life. In the standard units, the pumps and controls are housed in a secure, steel unit which is fitted with a heater to guard against frost damage. In the unlikely event of your Hippowash® experiencing any reduction in performance, we offer a 24 hour call out anywhere in the UK .
What maintenance and support do you provide?
Our post sales service team are available to help with any questions or queries you may have once your Hippowash® has been installed. We offer a maintenance package which comprises periodic visits by our service engineers to service and maintain the unit and our 24 hour call out service.
How much power will I need to operate a Hippowash?
Due to the inverter, our Hippowash® Classic and Evolution units only require:
- 63 Amps
- 415volt 3 phase neutral + earth
- 45KVA generator
Hippowash® JSL and Hippowash® JX use a soft start and only require:
- 52 Amps
- 400 volt 3 phase neutral + earth
- 27KVA generator
Do you offer a diesel system?
Hippowash does not offer a diesel system. Diesel systems are generally considered where mains electricity is limited or not available. Because our electric-run systems use significantly less power to run than other electric systems on the market, there is often no need to install more power to site for the Hippowash®. Diesel systems are expensive to maintain and present many operational challenges with regard to starting and stopping. Only a 45KVA generator is needed to run a Hippowash®, which is smaller, cheaper and more fuel efficient than alternatives.
Will the nozzles block?
Hippowash® filters down to 1.0mm so, provided that filtration is managed, nozzles (7mm aperture) should not block at all. In the unlikely event that they do, this is easily rectified.
How much water will the system use?
It depends on the number of vehicles going through the system, the conditions and the type of material being removed from the vehicles, but as a rule, we manage to reclaim 95% of water per wash. Used in conjunction with the waste water clarifier, far less water is used and lost compared to settlement tanks or lagoons, because you do not have to replace the total amount of water in the system during clean out. If water consumption is of concern, we can advise on how to set up your installation to reclaim close to 100%.
How do I clean the wash platform?
The wash platform has been engineered to be self-cleaning. This is due to the power and the volume of water used in the wash, the construction of the sub-floor and the use of a submersible slurry pump which is fitted with an agitator. The volume of water and the flow rate of both pumps ensure that the waste wash water and debris is removed from the platform before it has had chance to settle.
Will the wash cope with a queue of waiting trucks during peak times?
Yes. The wash can cope with any number of vehicles due to the inverter driven pumps we use. This means that it provides unlimited starts without causing damage to the pumps or invalidating their warranty. A wash programme generally lasts about 30 seconds during which time the vehicles are constantly moving through the unit. This minimises the opportunity for a queue to form. Due to the way in which we recycle the water, there is always sufficient clean water in the system on demand.
How do I deal with silt removal?
Hippowash® recommends its waste water clarifier (see fact sheet), which is the most effective method of settling out solids from the wash water. The silt is removed by simply turning the valves at the bottom of the hoppers. Alternatively, take a look at our automatic hopper discharge system. Silt removal from lagoons or settlement tanks require vacuum tankers or gully suckers.
What size vehicles will the unit take?
Hippowash® has been designed to be extremely robust, able to accommodate any road-going vehicle including articulated lorries, 8-wheelers, dumper trucks, low loaders, skip wagons, bucket loaders, cars and vans. Our galvanised steel entry and exit ramps are built specifically to suit all these vehicle types.
We are able to manufacture extra wide wash platforms for any wide loads. Hippowash has also supplied wash platforms specifically for 120 tonnes dumper trucks.
What weight vehicles can the standard units take?
Road-legal weight 45 tonnes.
How long can I expect the Hippowash® system to last?
We offer 5 years warranty on steel work and 12 months manufacturers warranties on controls and pumps. If maintained correctly, your Hippowash® should last you in excess of 10 years.
What finance is available?
Flexible finance packages are available including lease purchase. Please ask for details.
