120t Dumper Trucks Cleaned in South Wales
Our biggest challenge to date came in the form of a 24-hour, 7-days a week operation requiring 120 tonnes dumper trucks to be washed in constantly harsh conditions. Our standard Hippowash units are designed to take vehicles of road-legal size and weight (45t) so configuring a suitable wash for these oversize vehicles required a new approach.

The physical construction of the units were carried out in-house after calculations by external structural engineers determined the build specification. An in-set system would be supplied; the re-inforced wash platform was installed in two parts, divided by a concrete section in order to achieve the required width to accommodate the vehicles comfortably. The spray configuration was completely changed to take account of the new angles required to target the oversize tyres and also included side spray bars.

Processing the higher volumes of wash water generated by the huge wash required initial collection in a transfer sump before being directed into twin waste water clarifiers. These are also installed on a concrete pad for optimum hydraulic flow and sedimentation. The accumulated silt is discharged into a de-watering area, whilst the recycled water is directed into a large header tank for use on demand. 100% water recycling is in operation due to a submersible pump, located in the de-watering area taking water from the clean end back into the water recycling system.
